May Empties

This month was huge. My empties pile is huge. Fair is fair I guess, right?

Today, I am starting from the wipes and working around, because I need to tell you the story of the wipes first.

Easter weekend was a bit of a shambles and a bit awesome all at the same time. Let's just say my boyfriend is one lucky guy, in that everything ALWAYS works out for him. ALWAYS. We had booked some cheap, crappy accommodation in Roma for Easter in the Country, which ended up being booked out; instead we ended up in the nicest hotel in Roma for the weekend. However, the nicest hotel didn't have a room for our final night.

Lucky, we have a van, which we stayed in. Post Rodeo. In a car park/truck stop at Miles, on the way back to Toowoomba. Which meant facial wipe showers. Which is not ideal, but an adventure non-the less! I was pleased I had these facial wipes (2 packs for $3 at Woolies, hells to the yeah), because they smelt like cucumber, felt nice and did the job. Cheaply.

Now, back to the rest of the boring prods. I shall scoot through as fast as I can.

Country Life Energise Body Wash: Best cheap body wash for the scent. I love it.'

Redken Clear Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner: I loved this, it was the perfect amount of moisture for my fine hair without weighing it down. Slight problem with the sulphates in it though, it took me about 6 goes using other shampoo's in between to use this product up ( I had to use it over short periods) as it kept drying my scalp out and making it stupidly itchy. That is my skin's reaction reaction to the sulphates for you.  Repurchase? Only if I suddenly stop having a sulphate reaction.

Batise Blush Dry Shampoo: Love, marry, want to have it's babies.

Mario Badescu Keratoplast Soap: Nice, non-drying creamy cleanser which my skin loved. Repurchase? Yes.

Akin Soothing Toner: This is not empty, I am throwing it away because I can't stand the smell. It is gorgeously soothing and perfect on my skin but it smells like citrus mixed with flowers which is a scent I can't stand!

Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother: I really like this, it definitely keeps the frizzies at bay in the rain!! Repurchase? Maybe but it does contain Dimethicone which keeps me on the fence.

Olay Complete SPF 30+: I love this. I adore this. I use this A LOT for face, decolletage and arms.

Rexona Clinical Protection Deodorant: This stuff works like magic. As I am a sweaty old man named Barry, I love this. Repurchase? Yes, just waiting for a sale.

Dove Original Roll on Deodorant: I love this. Have already repurchased.

Australis Ready Set Go Translucent Powder: This is my favourite powder of all time. I will DEFINITELY repurchase, I just have two others to use up first.

Akin Rosehip Oil: A holy grail product which my skin loves like I love black forest chocolate. I have three of these babies on standby.

Face of Australia Impact Curl Mascara: This mascara is Ah-may-zing. It really is. I cannot recommend it enough. This one will definitely be added to my cart as soon as I have finished up a few others. I am in love.

Rimmel ScandalEYES Mascara: I liked this, but it is not love. Repurchase? No.

Lanolips 101 Ointment: This is not empty, but it needs to be thrown away. I have a slight problem with the packaging, as whenever the product gets cold and hard, the sides of the tube split! Meaning it starts squeezing out everywhere and virtually becomes un-usable. Which is unfortunate. This has happened to about three of my Lanolips ointments, luckily I have a stash, so I don't need to repurchase yet. Because despite the design flaw I will, because it is wicked.

What did you empty this month? Should I keep doing empties post's or do you hate reading them? xx

My general makeup rut.

I am sure that I am not alone when I say this, but whilst having a rather large makeup collection there are items which I reach for every day without fail. Items which I use to create my normal face, ever day, with very little variation. Items which have stood the test of time (sometimes for years) and continue to stand up against other new little products which try and weasel their way in.

Or you could say I am boring and I like my routine ;P

The routine:

Sunscreen - of some description, preferably zinc based.

Foundation: Usually Clinique Superbalanced or MAC Pro Long wear, depending on how the mood strikes me. How adventurous of me!

Concealer: a little under eye and a little to cover blemishes, these change depending on which ever brand is cheapest on sale, but for under eye I can't go past Essence Stay Natural Concealer.

Once the base is as perfect as possible, I dust a little...

Powder: currently using MAC Studio Fix Loose Powder (hating it), although for about a year prior I was using the Australis Ready Set Go Translucent Powder.

Bronzer follows, I have been using MAC Bronzer in Golden on and off for years. It is my favourite non muddy, non super shimmery, light coloured bronzer which is perfect for little pale me. I apply this under my cheek bones for contour.

Blush: applied to apples of cheeks following bronzer. I have been using MAC Pinch o' Peach for years and I can't see myself changing it up any time soon. I am in love.

Then I move on to eyes. I dust a little Rimmel Mono Eyeshadow in Punchy Taupe onto my eyelid, liquid line my eye (usually with Rimmel Professional Glam Eyes Liquid Liner or Daiso Magic Liner, however I am currently using Australis IntensifEYE) and apply a mascara - which ever is handy at the time (currently Australis Voluptulash.

Brows come last, I usually pencil them in, because despite having a Benefit Brow Kit, using wax and powder is too time consuming. Currently using Revlon Eyebrow Definer, although I am not fussy as long as the pencil isn't red based.

The only part of my face I ever change up or do something different with is my lips. My lipstick collection is enormous, bright colours are my favourite, although I do have a couple of my lips but better shades in there for the very occasional defined eye look that I may do.

What is your general makeup rut? Are you constantly using the same products (like me) or are you adventurous and branch out to something different every day?

Kit Cosmetics Lipstick in Freedom Fighter and Cherry Picker {Mecca Maxima Haul}

Enabled by my favourite enabler Sharleena, I purchased these two lippies from the newly opened Mecca Cosmetica in Brisbane Wintergarden. Freedom Fighter is a gorgeous creamy coral, whereas Cherry Picker is a lovely blue based cherry red. Both are supremely creamy formulations which feel beautiful on. The lipsticks are extremely pigmented and surprisingly long lasting (without food or drink) for such a creamy formulation. I am in love.

The Instagram Countdown

Oh Mecca Cosmetica, you are so wonderful! My Mecca viginity was broken when Sharleena and I went shopping last friday, which resulted in two wonderful new lippies being added to my collection.

Kit Freedom Fighter and Cherry Picker, pleased to meet you.

Plus, this is Cherry Picker on. Isn't it gorgeous??

Saturday, Tim came home! HURRAH!!

Plus, he followed through on a duty free request. Chanel Coquette is mine! Thank Timmy!

So, we spent the weekend together. At the beach.

Being stalked by seagulls.

Timmy also took me to Wild Horse Mountain Look Out. We saw the most beautiful sunset.

Oh, I almost forgot, Saturday night I got to try Rekorderlig cider for the first time. Om nom nom!

This week, I also tried the jellies version of the new Cadbury Chocolate. Definitely my favourite by far!

This week I also started my first practicum placement. The walk from my car to the hospital takes me past this gorgeous house. I am in love!

What did you get up to with your week? If you want to see more of my adventures, follow me on Instagram @tegania11 :)

Clarins Extra Firming Day Cream and Night Cream Review

Clarins is a brand I love simply because they are french and they fit in with the little "french" image I have in my head. Whilst I had never tried their facial moisturizers I have tried plenty of other products, with the ones I really love not getting a mention, as usual - hello Hand and Nail Cream, you're amazing!

I am going to discuss the Extra Firming Night and Day Cream together because they are so similar, and it saves me writing everything twice.

What I like:

  •  These creams are so luxurious. The formulation is silky and soaks in immediately to provide hydration all night.
  • They have a soft in offensive fruity smell which dissipates quickly. It smells artificial, but I really like the scent.
  • I didn't notice a difference in the "firmness" of my skin, although I did notice a difference in the texture and despite it being Autumn my skin tended to glow each morning when I woke up.

What I don't like

  • Whilst I appreciate the beauty of the little glass tubs of cream, I can foresee a few smashed tubs. I myself have almost dropped them on the bathroom tiles countless times.
  • The cream was a little bit rich for my skin, I did get break outs along my chin when I used this product. Considering I have sensitive, problem skin which is like a fussy toddler it is no great surprise really and I feel it would be perfect for most other people. The formulation is designed for all skin types, however I believe it would be best for those with drier or more mature skin.

Ry.com.au is the company I have entrusted all of my MAJOR beauty spending with. When I bought my GHD for my 18th birthday, it was promptly sent all the way to Kingaroy without a scratch. My Clarisonic Classic was bought this Christmas and I have bought countless other items from them besides. I love that being local (Gold Coast) means the items get to you extremely quickly and they are willing to fix any problem (when I bought my Clarisonic I originally wanted the Pro, but they were out of stock - the website hadn't been changed to reflect this yet when I ordered the Pro. They quickly refunded my money and I bought the Classic instead. Easy). It was no different when they sent me these items for review, they arrived promptly and carefully packaged.

This was provided for review consideration from ry.com.au in accordance with my disclosure policy.

How to create finger curls

Last Tuesday night, my hair was finger curled for the first time and I have been obsessed ever since. Here is the quick guide to creating modern finger curls, without the time consumption of the retro version.

Using the smallest barrel tong you can find, curl all your hair in EXTREMELY tight ringlets which all face the same direction. Set with some hair spray and allow to cool.

Once curled, brush the curls out, placing a bobby pin in the crease of the first curl (to create the first "finger") and set with hairspray. As my hair is stupidly thick we only curled half my hair, the rest was pinned back into a messy roll.

The final look:

Easy peasy pudding and pie, if you have the patience to curl all your hair. I love this look so much, but that goes hand in hand with a vintage obsession.

Which look from the Bossy Hair video's would you like me to detail for you next?

xxx

PS. I have an awesome offer for all of you! If you head into the Kelvin Grove Bossy Hair Gold Star Salon (not during academy hours) and mention my blog and this post, you will recieve 10% off all salon services (excluding retail) until the end of June! xx

Revlon Melonade Lipstick Review

Revlon does some stupid things some times. Like make Australian Prices twice to three times the price of overseas prices (do they think we don't have google?). They also discontinue damn pretty colours. Who ever decided Melonade was a good colour to discontinue over at Revlon HQ is a bit of an idiot, but here we are. I guess it just didn't sell as well as it should.

My recommendation to everyone: dig through all bargain bins at all chemists/priceline's/cosmetic plus shops til you find this. It is a gorgeous soft orange coral, which is bright without being neon. The creme formulation means the colour is quite sheer, however whilst it is not insanely long lasting it is a gorgeous formulation to wear. I believe this colour is universally flattering, so if you find it, BUY IT!

Face of Australia Haul

So, Last Monday night saw a few purchases make their way into my Kmart trolley (a dangerous thing, this Kmart trolley) without me needing any of it. Considering the products are Face of Australia, which we all know I have a slight obsession with, it is less of a surprise than it should be. Although, it is a surprise it took me so long to take photos of it all, I am sorry I am such a slack beauty blogger!

I purchased:

  • Lip Quench in Ruby Delight (with which I plan to attempt Camilla Belle Met Ball Lips)
  • Colour Pro Triple Action Nail Enamel in Angel Baby (pink), Mystic Iris (purple) and Lady in Red (red, obviously).
The nail laquers were purchased on the fact that they are big three free (free from Toulene, Formaldehyde and Dibutyl Phthalate) however I have found that they are a bit of a one coat wonder. I have only tried Mystic Purple so far, but with one application on my toes the colour was opaque, shiny and even. Plus, no chipping 4 days later. I shall report back on the others when I hvae given them a go.

Happy Monday Everyone!

Instagramming The Week Away

This week, I almost didn't write this post. It didn't feel like I had done anything worth while this week except lie around reading a lot of books and working. In fact, looking back over my pictures I did do a large array of fun things, and my disappointment in my week has lessened.

Last friday saw me head to my good friends house for a girly catch up session with some of my best friends over a chocolate fondue set. Such a good night, not only because I tried waffles for the first time (!) but because I got to spend the time with my friends.

Earlier that day my best friend and I had road tripped around trying to find a community hall in which she could hold her 21st. The two pictured are not the one that ended up being successful, but were cute none the less. There is nothing better than a road trip in my opinion, getting out of the city is the best thing!

A successful hall hunting trip always calls for Lemon Meringue pie.

Saturday I did a hell of a lot of house cleaning, Sunday I worked. Sunday night I got to catch up with another one of my beautiful best friends over pasta at Avanti, Bardon (best restaurant in Brisbane, by far - big call but I made it). We even shared a dessert, and not to sound up myself, but the sticky date pudding rivaled even my own, and I AM the QUEEN of sticky date pudding.

Monday = more work and the gym, although it did involve a little bit of sun worship.

Tuesday: I tried very very hard not to get out of bed. In the end I DID get out of bed, went to my friends house to study and ended up talking to her for 4.5 hours straight. I am sorry lovely, but in the absence of Tim others have to have their ears chewed off. My poor fish has no more time to give me. I could never be an old lady who lives alone. I would be the one in the home who is a member of all societies - knitting, bowls, bridge, whatever.

Tuesday also saw myself and some of the other Brisbane blogger girls head to Bossy Hair to film their DIY 5 minute hair video's. My finger curls took longer than 5 mins due to the EPIC amounts of hair that is on my head, but once curled the style took a total of about one minute. Hurrah!

Before:

After:

I loved my curls so much I refused to take them out til the last minute. Hello makeup less face, pajamas and FINGER CURLS!

Tuesday I also bought some blue moccasins from Target. I think they are adorable.

Wednesday involved lying on the couch feeling bored and sorry for myself, until my gorgeous friends came out with me to West End for a spot of dress shopping and a bucket of Chai and a Turkish Bread sandwich from The Three Monkeys. I am eternally grateful to them both!

Thursday didn't involve a lot other than work and reading books. Definitely nothing Instagram worthy, which is depressing!

I would love it if you would follow me on Instagram, my username is @tegania11 :D. Much easier to get the rest of the story that way.

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!
