omg

oh I just saw this picture on Zoe's blog when I was stalking PRIMPED and I had to copy it.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO LOOK LIKE! Is this Karen Walker model not the cutest person that you have ever seen? Lovely red hair, gorgeous skin, cute little nerdy chic look?

I want to be her. Immediately if not sooner.

Pity that red hair doesn't suit me. Case in point:

Please ignore the fact that I was on Grade 12 Biology Camp. There is no way to look pretty when you are studying aquatic wildlife.

Herbal Aktiv Peel

Last month I got a facial (for the first time in about 3 years, oops) and I was told that my skin had gone into freak out land and was incredibly sensitive. I was using incorrect products for my skin apparently, and that was causing my congestion. Anyway, long story short, I was given a new range of Skin Juice skin care (which is working really well, and of which I will do a blog post shortly), and told that if I did a couple of peels in quick succession (once a month for about 3 or so months) then my skin would clear right up.

Yesterday I trotted in for my peel, and to be honest I was quite scared. The type of peel that I was doing (the HerbalAktiv Peel, as the title suggests) is an all natural, herbal based peel, and I was only doing a mini peel - the equivalent of 4 to 5 microdermabrasions - but I was still nervous. I start uni back next week and I didn't want to look like I have been really badly sun burnt. Turns out, it was all ok.

The peel began as a facial usually does, double cleansing, steaming, and then the peel was applied. HerbalAktiv Peel is a browny-greeny colour, it is basically just mashed up herbs, but it feels really scratchy, like a massive exfoliant. In a mini peel the herbs are rubbed into your skin for just a couple of minutes (in a full peel it takes about ten) and then removed. A vitamin booster was then applied to my skin, and I was left to snooze for 15 or so minutes. Home care then applied and I finished my gossip session with my therapist and went on my way.

I didn't experience any discomfit during the peel, although some people find that it prickles, although later that afternoon I started to find that my face got very hot, and it felt like I had prickles in my fingers if I touched it. Also, my face was quite pink all of yesterday. I was told to expect all of this though, and therefore it wasn't a great shock.

This morning when I woke up my skin is back to normal. Although better, because what pimples I had during the peel are starting to clear up. Success! I am waiting for tomorrow though, because that is the day that if I am to get any shedding it will appear. My therapist advised me that I might get a little peeling, but my entire face won't peel as it would if I had gone in for a major peel (the equivalent of 20 micro-dermabrasions - ouch). I shall have to keep you posted on the outcome.

One thing to note though, if you have severe allergies to plants do not head in for this peel, because as it is completely crushed up herbs allergies can act up.

Also, one other thing to remember, is that because you are damaging the skin in your peel, it is very important to use very high protection sunscreen, or else the skin can get sun damaged, which may lead to possible pigmentation. Oops.

Beauty Explorer Video - Sunburn

Video Number Two for the Beauty Explorers, and I have been an idiot. Last Wednesday I went down to the Gold Coast, and although putting on my usual three layers of sunscreen, I apparently missed the strip around my bikini strap each time. I ended up with a very ouchy sunburn - Idiot. Plus, it makes me look like even more of an idiot, because I am a huge advocate for sunscreen.

Anyways, in this video (in case you can't watch it) I discuss the 3 main steps for taking care of sunburn, which include:

1. Cold shower to take some of the burrrrnnnn away.
2. Applying Aloe Vera gel or Calamine Lotion or a fantastic product from Akin called their emergency gel. The important thing here is for 24-48 hrs DO NOT apply anything containing oil. This is effectively frying yourself. Remember: you are not a steak, delicious as they are.
3. After this 24-48 hour period, moisturizer can now be applied to try and prevent your skin from peeling.

Remember, nothing is going to undo the sun damage. Sunscreen up, always!

MOR Basil and Grape Candle

I have a little "thing" for scented candles. I have a bit of a sensitive nose, so I like having pretty smells around. I love the Moroccan candle from Dusk (it reminds me of Christmas) and adore the Tigerlily Coconut Candle, but one that is fast becoming my most favourite is the MOR Basil and Grape (with a hint of violet, oo-er). Reasons why:

1. It comes in an adorable tin, which, besides being too cute for words, means that the wax doesn't spill everywhere.

2. It is soy based, which is better for your lungs than paraffin based candles.

3. It smells freaking amazing. It smells fresh and fruity, you think that the basil wouldn't work, but it really does. Also, it isn't too sweet - no headaches here!

Not much more to say really. I think that I have a new candle love.

Review: Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

I have apparently got really stressed out skin, which is very dehydrated, which is why I have heaps of congestion. Says my beautician, after I went for a facial a couple of weeks ago. I have been trialing a new skin care regime with quite good results, which is excellent, and I shall be discussing that at a later date (I am heading in for a peel in 2 weeks time and I thought that I would wait until I heard the verdict before I start talking, so keep your eyes peeled for that one).

In the meantime, one product which I had in my stash which I was using, but not very regularly, became something that I was allowed to use (whereas almost everything else got thrown away). Success. My beautician actually said that this was a great product and one which would exfoliate without stressing my skin, and I have to say that so far she is right. Of course she is, she is a god of skin care, and I should never have doubted her in the first place haha.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant comes in a hygienic canister, which contains two tiny little holes in the top in which you poor the powder through. Powder I hear you say? Yes. This product is a powder, to use you wet your hands and then poor a little powder onto them, rub your hands together and rub it all over your face.

For an exfoliant, this product is very soft. If you like harsh scrubs (like St Ives, for instance) this product won't be for you, it is the exact opposite of that. But, I feel that it exfoliates and cleans much better than the harsher scrubs ever did for me. It leaves your skin feeling soft, not dry, and absolutely glowing.

I love this stuff. The end. Plus, I love the novelty of it being a powder which turns into a paste. Fun!

Beauty Explorer Video Number One - Hissyfit Saving Face

This is my first "real" video as a Beauty Explorer, so feel free to tell me how crap my background is (it's the back of my wardrobe/chest of drawers, incase you were wondering), and how lame I sound, I need heaps of criticism and practise so that I can get better.

I decided to do my video on Hissyfit Saving Face, because Dee from Miss Prissypants and I both reviewed the product togther, and she didn't like it, and I did. I thought this was interesting, tell both sides of the story type thing, hence the video on Hissyfit. Plus, I still really love the product so if I can talk it up I will.

Anyways, here are the links for all blogs/youtube videos if you are interested:

Happy Valentines Day

I am a sucker for Valentine's Day. I really love it, I don't care how soppy and over-rated and commercial it is. Although everyone should celebrate love (husband, boyfriend, family, best friends) every day, it is nice to have a day where you get a little special attention, for being special to someone. For that, I say, to my lovely special readers, I love you all. Thank you for reading, commenting and helping me to continue blogging.

Ingrown hairs. I hate them.

I am a massive fan of Waxing. Love it. What I do not like however, is the fact that I always end up with evil ingrown hairs. Kill them all. My beautician says that either you are one of the lucky ones who get them, or you don't. I apparently do. I exfoliate and use after care like you are supposed to, but apparently I am just too awesome and my ingrowns refuse to leave. Every waxing appointment my beautician spends ages pulling them all out, only to have more to do next time.

With Valentines Day coming on Monday too, I have one particularly evil ingrown which has been plaguing me for about two weeks, which no matter what I do refuses to budge. Murder it, I say! Still, I am getting much better at getting rid of ingrowns (despite the evil one still lurking) and I thought that I would share my method of attack. If anyone has any wonder treatments as well, please let me know!

First, as soon as I get home from a waxing appointment I apply my Tend Skin Solution, which is an alcohol based liquid which I use as an antiseptic. I also use it when ingrowns do pop up as a spot treatment of sorts. It stings, but I have found that it definitely helps!

Later on, or that night before bed (because I am always a little tender for 24 hours or so after - god this is awkward haha) I apply Sudocrem, which is a Zinc based nappy rash cream, but is a cream which is fantastic for eczema and things as well. Zinc is great at healing your skin, and this usually takes the redness and inflammation down very quickly.

Finally, if any little ingrowns do pop up I apply some petroleum free PawPaw Salve, as it acts as a natural drawing ointment and helps to heal the skin.

Sick

I am home from work today, sick as. Vomiting all morning, in bed all day. Not fun.

Something that I have never thought about it how hard all this beauty stuff can be. When you are applying all your face creams and eye creams and primer and make up, it always seems to much fun. Well, to me anyway. I am one of those people who adores getting ready to go out, primping myself and playing with everything until I get the exact look that I want.

Normally, when I am sick I take good care of my skin care, because I know that my skin is dehydrated and not getting any love from my body, which is trying to repair itself.

Today, I have been the complete opposite. It was hard enough to shower this morning, I kinda just sat in the bottom of the shower and let the water and soap wash over me. My hair today, although I washed it, has no anti-frizz product or leave-in conditioner or anything. I haven't even applied a moisturizer to my face.

Today, it is all too hard.

Has anyone else had similar situations?

Review: Maybelline Baby Lips in Menthol

I am not normally a lip balm girl, I usually apply my lanolips and that is all. But, I am a sucker for new products with amazing claims, and Baby Lips claims to offer 8 hours of hyrdration. Huge claim yes. Did I purchase? Yes. Sucker.

I bought the Menthol Flavour, the other flavours are Antioxidant Berry, Soothing Cherry, and Energising Orange (my housemate bought this one and it smells like orange and poppyseed muffins).
I ended up going with the menthol flavour, because I am not a fruit fan. I find that flavoured lip balms make me feel sick, a throw back from the lipsmackers days. Anyway, I find the menthol flavour really nice, its strong but it dissipates quickly, Carmex, anyone?

The lip balm gives you a really nice shimmery effect, and it looks really nice on. I like it, negates the need for another gloss to carry around with your lipbalm. Success. Also, it contains SPF 20. Double Success.

The most important part, does it hydrate for 8 hours? No. It does hydrate reasonably well for a cheapy lip balm, but like Nivea and Blistex and the other cheapy lip balms it leaves my lips hurting more when it gets eaten off. But, it still does do a reasonably job for something to throw in your clutch for when you go out, just make sure that you put your lanolips on when you get home!
